Internet World reported on our Manchester disaster recovery poll. "Companies are set up for data disaster recovery, but overlook their telephones. This was clearly brought home when a serious fire in a Manchester BT hub brought banks, call centres and even taxi drivers to a halt as 130,000 phone lines went down, leaving some companies without phones for five days."
"A survey of 1,043 firms in the area by voice and data specialists Direct Response found that 60 per cent of the companies polled had their voice communications affected ... but just 34 per cent had a business continuity plan in place."
The article went on to point out that 70 per cent were unaware that banks expect businesses applying for loans to have a proven disaster recovery plan in place.
