Voice over internet protocol (VoIP) telecommunications services must be properly managed, a new report warns.
Aberdeen research found that well-managed VoIP deployments can be 93 per cent better quality than poorly-managed services and are four times more likely to experience a reduction in call failure rates.
Research analyst Bojan Simich said that companies which failed to manage VoIP properly could experience more service downtime.
"Organisations are investing more than a significant amount of resources in rolling out VoIP and these investments have already enabled them to save 21 per cent in telecommunications costs and to deploy new functionalities for enterprise-wide collaboration," he said.
According to the report, best-in-class companies have enabled 48 per cent of their end-points with IP telecoms solutions.
A new report in eWeek.com warns that increased adoption of VoIP could lead to an increase in the number of hacking attacks specific to the telecoms technology.
