Small businesses may find that telecoms initiatives such as virtual offices give them the appearance of increased sophistication, one expert claims.
George Derbyshire, chief executive of the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies (NFEA), says that advances in IT, internet and telecommunications have enabled a growing number of companies to pursue strategies that enhance their business reputation.
"A virtual office can also provide the appearance of a much larger organisation, while allowing a business owner to continue working from home or on the move," comments Mr Derbyshire.
His comments come after statistics from Flexibility, the employment research resource, revealed that UK homeworking grew by 11 per cent in 2005, following corresponding expansion of nine per cent in 1997 and ten per cent in 2001.
The NFEA representative points out that "many of today's business operations can be run with a mobile or by email", enabling entrepreneurs to save money and achieve a better work-life balance.
