Unified communications (UC) is migrating "to the cloud", a new report has suggested. Research from In-Stat has claimed that this is due to vendors positioning UC has a service instead of a product. The company explained that numerous types of this technology are coming to the market. Dave Lemelin, an analyst for In-Stat, said: "There are versions that operate as a hybrid mix of customer-owned equipment with managed/hosted services targeting mid-size businesses, those that act as fully hosted offerings with smaller businesses in mind, and those that are revamped broadband telephony services targeting SOHO users." This issue, and numerous others, is tackled in the new Global Unified Communications Emerges from the Cloud report, which is available now. The study is priced $3,495 (£2,100), although a free sample is on offer. In-Stat specialises in end-user and market research which generates technical analysis on the mobile internet and digital entertainment ecosystem sectors.
