The growth of the unified communications (UC) sector is set to have a positive impact on the VoIP market, it has been claimed. Diane Myers, directing analyst, service provider VoIP and IMS (Internet protocol Multimedia Subsystem) at Infonetics Research, made this comment after a recent study showed the UC industry increased in size during the third quarter. She said: "The growth in enterprise adoption of VoIP on the premises will in the long-term have a positive impact on carriers as businesses look to extend VoIP from the premises to the wide area." Ms Myers also commented that her own firm's research had shown that the UC sector had grown. She went on to state that, in the current climate, operators are putting money into their VoIP networks. Last week, research by Dell'Oro Group found that as well as the UC sector increasing in size, there was also a ten per cent growth in IP telephones during the third quarter.
