Thames Water could outsource its call centre, according to reports. It has been suggested that the company may move its consumer care complex to India. The call centre is currently based in Swindon and employs around 500 people. It is thought that the company is exploring the option in a bid to cut costs after regulator Ofwat called for cheaper bills for consumers earlier this year. The firm, which is the largest water utility in the UK, revealed in a statement that it is looking into its options. A spokesman said: "No decisions have been taken regarding outsourcing the customer centre but we have to assess all options, including testing the market across a number of areas in the business." In other call centre news, Sytel Limited has launched a scheme which aims to help companies avoid falling foul of new Ofcom regulations regarding outbound calling.
