Tesco has announced that it will open a new call centre. The Newcastle-based consumer care complex will create as many as 1,000 jobs. It will be located at the city's Quorum Business Park and will part of the Tesco Bank chain. Andrew Higginson, chairman of Tesco Bank, said: "This new customer service centre will help us provide our banking and insurance customers with the same great service they have come to expect in our stores." He added that this is an "important step" for the firm, saying that it will help bring greater value to its insurance customers. The move has been welcomed by Lord Mandelson, the business secretary, who said that he is "proud of the government support" that enabled to decision for the launch of the call centre. In other news, Aviva has this week announced the implementation of new business process management systems which could aid customer care.
