The trialling of new technology, which could see rural areas of the UK gain broadband access, is underway. Tests on the equipment, which could result in more people being able to use online telecoms services, is taking place thanks to work by BT. The telecoms firm's Broadband Enabling Technology (BET) aims to deliver this kind of internet access over longer distances than is currently possible. Among the areas being targeted for tests include parts of Scotland, Worcestershire, Berkshire, Lancashire and West Sussex, people in these regions of the UK keen to access online telecoms may be interested to hear. John Small, managing director for service delivery at the company, said: "We're really excited about the potential of BET to extend broadband to the remaining not-spots." Recently, Virgin Media announced improvements to the cabling system between the UK and Ireland, it may interest users of VoIP to learn.
