Adopting voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solutions can give businesses an edge over their competitors, it has been revealed. Telecoms expert Alexandra Ernst writes on RealBusiness that VoIP can give firms greater flexibility, cut costs and improve customer service. She explains that unified communications (UC), whether hosted in-house or outsourced, can "transform" a company. Big brands such as YO! Sushi and sportswear manufacturer Puma have both implemented UC solutions, such as VoIP, recently, the expert adds. "Now UC has matured why not see what business efficiencies and cost-cutting it can deliver? It could be the edge you're looking for?" Ms Ernst advises. Earlier this month, Jon Arnold, replying to a question on SearchUnifiedCommunications, advised firms not to fret over disruption to their business when switching over to new technologies. He said that with modern IP systems deploying new technologies can be a smooth transition.
