UK consumers will become more interested in VoIP as more telecoms operators offer it as a primary service, an expert has claimed. Rupert Wood, principal analyst at Analysys Mason, commented that at the minute firms are not offering the telecoms technology in this way. He said instead it is available from many providers as a second line service, adding that until this changes, people may be "uninterested in VoIP". However, Mr Wood stated that his company does expect more telecoms firms to offer the technology as a primary line service as time goes on. Mr Wood went on to say that the usage of software-based VoIP in the UK is "not particularly low by international standards", but the commitment of telecos to using it for managed packages that are sold to clients is. A recent communications market report from Ofcom found that 17 per cent of adults have access to this telecoms equipment.
