Making broadband available to everyone in the UK is about choice, it has been claimed. Edd Dawson, managing director for broadband.co.uk, said that this should not revolve around forcing the technology on people, users of telecoms services such as VoIP may be interested to hear. He commented: "If someone lives in a remote area and can't get broadband and they want it, they are going to be at a severe disadvantage when it comes to work." Mr Dawson explained that this is due to the rising trend of remote operating in the workplace, adding that it is important that high-speed internet services are accessible UK-wide. He went on to say that authorities are currently trying to implement systems geographically, with the expert commenting that he believes that while one person in a city may not want broadband, "someone living on a remote island will". According to a recent Ofcom report, one in five adults who do not have the internet at home are likely to sign up in the next six months.
