Broadband is growing at a healthier rate than expected, the latest figures have suggested.
In news which may interest users of telecoms services such as VoIP, there were 445,000 new internet lines of this type in the first half of this year.
This boosted the total number up to 17.8 million.
These figures led data analysts Point Topic to predict that there will be more than 23 million lines by the end of 2013, which could result in a high number of VoIP users.
However, Tim Johnson, chief analyst with the company, has suggested that the government's budget of £12 million to improve availability of broadband may not be enough.
He said: "Allowing only twelve million to get more homes online looks pretty weak when you consider the size of the task on one side and the potential benefits on the other."
Meanwhile, telecoms giant BT recently revealed that it can now serve half a million homes through WiFi hot spots, users of VoIP may be interested to hear.
