Broadband is becoming more and more important to businesses, partly due to online telecoms services, it has been claimed. Edd Dawson, editor of Broadband.co.uk, said that VoIP and remote video conferencing equipment is a reason for this, as it means firms do not have to rely on everyone being in the same room for a meeting. He stated that the ability to share data is becoming increasingly crucial for businesses, users of online telecoms systems may be interested to hear. On the importance of highspeed internet, Mr Dawson added: "It is the auxiliary services, not just data, it is the fact that you can VoIP." He went on to say that, at present, there is not a "joined-up infrastructure plan" when it comes to the latest internet technology. In June, Gordon Brown told the Times that the internet is "an essential service" suggesting that it is approaching the same level of importance as water, gas and electricity.
