A new study has shown that the average broadband speed has fallen. Research by Broadband.co.uk found that this has dropped for the first time since December last year, users of online telecoms utilities such as VoIP may be interested to hear. Analysts at the group discovered that the average speed in April was 4.26Mbps, representing a drop of 0.1Mbps. Edd Dawson, editor of Boradband.co.uk, commented this is a small decline, but it is still a "concern for the majority of broadband users". He added: "We feel it's crucial that broadband consumers are able to monitor the performance of ISP's which is why we will be continuing to publish our speedtest results on a monthly basis." The study also showed that Virgin Media has the highest speed, with this provider offering an average 6.73 Mbps service. Recently, an Ofcom report stated that some broadband users are not receiving the speeds that they pay for, those keen to access telecoms utilities such as VoIP may be disappointed to hear.
