The growth of online shopping and increasingly advanced technology for mobile devices is leading more retailers to look more closely at mobile sales strategies, a new poll has revealed.
With faster broadband speeds and more sophisticated internet browsing available on mobiles, the market could be lucrative, particularly as there are three times as many mobile phone subscribers as there are internet users, according to a Cisco e-commerce survey.
The research found that 42 per cent of retailers offer consumers the ability to view products on mobiles, while 15 per cent allow them to conduct transactions in this way.
Dick Cantwell of Cisco commented: "Mobile presents a revenue opportunity for retailers."
He added that "retailers must start offering shoppers an 'interconnected shop' if they are to take advantage of the mobile opportunity".
US e-commerce grew by 15 per cent in April after the previous month's nine per cent rise, according to comScore.
