An online security expert has said that it is generally not a good idea to permit staff to use social networks while they are at work.
Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos, explained that employees, including those working in call centres, may share too much information over the networks.
This could lead to hackers gaining enough data to launch an attack on a company, he warned.
"Some 33 per cent of internet users use the same password for every website they access," Mr Cluley noted.
"That means, if hackers grab your password on one site, they can use it to unlock everything else about you. Chances are that you also use that password inside your company."
The comments come after a study by firewall provider Palo Alto Networks revealed that the majority of firms across the world have outdated IT infrastructure.
As a result, the businesses may not be able to meet the challenges associated with web-based application.
