The market for high-level features on phones is set to grow in the next five years, a new report indicates.
A forecast from ABI Research that may be of interest to firms with business mobile contracts suggests that the markets for smartphone and low-cost handsets are to expand, while demand for mid-range models dwindles.
Last year saw 854 million enhanced phone units shipped worldwide, a figure which the organisation expects to fall to 441 million in 2013.
Kevin Burden director of ABI Research, said that as users continue to demand high-end features, manufacturers are likely to force the functions of smartphone operating systems further down their product ranges.
"Their smartphone portfolios will grow - and with them, the entire smartphone market," he said.
A recent study by AMI Partners discovered that smartphone adoption is growing among small-business owners, with this growth expected to continue over the next five years by the research organisation.
