Sainsbury's website has crashed and it is costing the company about £700,000 a day in business it is losing from online shoppers, is has been reported.
An estimated 16,000 to 20,000 customers have been unable to access the retailer's website for the past two days to do their online shopping, which has already cost Sainsbury £1.5 million, according to Computer Weekly.
Despite this, Sainsbury's chief executive Justin King, said that online shopping represents such a small amount of total sales that financial accounts will not need to be altered as a result of the problem.
A spokeswoman from the supermarket told Computer Weekly: "We are not going into detail on whether the system is with the hosting systems or our own systems other than to say it is an internal technical error.
Meanwhile, Richard Jones, who was head of non-food at Sainsbury's until last week, has taken up the role of director of general merchandise and global sourcing at Tesco, according to the Telegraph.
