Remote working can 'help businesses'

Companies that adopt remote working can thrive.

This is the view of Andrew Millard, director of e-commerce, Europe, the Middle East and Africa at GoToMyPC, who said this is particularly true of small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

Remote operating could involve call centres allowing agents to work from home, with Mr Millard suggesting that doing so would demonstrate a level of trust between employer and employee.

He said: "For some SMBs, the introduction of flexible working policies can be challenging, but those businesses that deploy flexible working and home working can thrive."

The expert added that showing trust will develop greater loyalty from staff and could also improve productivity and motivation.

He also said that the technology is available for companies wishing to put remote working into practice.

Firms looking to do so could use telecoms equipment such as VoIP services to allow their call centre agents to operate from home.
