Viviane Reding, the European Union commissioner for information, society and media, has announced that all states will be subject to further reductions in the costs of mobile roaming.
From August 30th, customers making personal or business mobile calls should see the price of making a call on their phone while abroad fall from 0.49 to 0.46 per minute, while receiving calls should cost 0.22 instead of 0.24, reports VNU Net.
"EU Roaming Regulation was introduced so that Europeans use their mobile phones without fear of excessive bills when travelling in the single market," Ms Reding commented.
She also said that these latest reductions should "reaffirm the trend for lowering roaming prices".
The commissioner wants to establish a single market for roaming text messages and data services too, she said.
Viviane Reding is from Luxembourg and she served as national president of Christian-Social Women between 1988 and 1993, joining the European Parliament in 1989.
