Open source telephony 'to grow'

04/07/2008 11:38:29

Open source telephony is growing more prevalent in the business telecoms sphere, a new report indicates.

Analysis from Frost & Sullivan suggests that an open source telephony line can cost up to 40 per cent less than a regularly-priced IP PBX communication manager, reports TCMnet.com.

The organisation predicts that more than 74,000 lines were shipped by the market last year, a figure that is expected to reach 1.95 million by 2013.

"Several notable open source telephony vendors are investing in the European market and 2008 will be dominated by channel activities, especially channel recruitment and training," said Dorota Oviedo, research analyst with Frost & Sullivan.

The official added that distribution will be crucial to the drive by established participants to expand their industry presence.

A recent eWeek article observed that open source telephony has developed into a fully-fledged business telecoms solution in recent years, spurred by customer demands and technological innovation.
