A survey of almost 2,000 consumers has shown that searching for new furniture over the internet is now popular with more than half of shoppers, according to a new survey.
According to a customer behaviour report by PriceGrabber.com, 53 per cent of respondents indicated that the web is the first port of call when it comes to researching products and vendors.
Many of these consumers then go on to purchase the furniture they researched on the internet, partly because prices tend to be on the cheaper side.
"Traditionally, consumers preferred to touch and feel major home products prior to purchasing," said PriceGrabber.com.
"In [this] survey, consumers exhibited more trust in the internet."
Experian's poll also revealed that as many as seven in ten consumers say free home delivery would encourage them to shop for more furniture online.
A survey by 3V Transactions recently found that more than three-quarters of those engaging in online shopping now make between ten and 20 per cent of their monthly purchases over the internet, reports the Irish Independent.
