Next generation broadband technology could allow for better flexible working conditions for UK workers, according to a report published by the Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG). Wider economic benefits that could arise from the implementation of next generation broadband systems include achieving the productivity benefits of cities and clusters without the need for workers to be in such close proximity. Furthermore, the report claims that if the UK does not implement some form of advanced broadband system within the next three to five years, the country's economy could suffer. Antony Walker, chief executive officer of BSG, said: "Next generation broadband has the potential to transform the way we do things as individuals, businesses and as a nation as a whole." In a recent poll of the Orange SMS Business Jury, 29 per cent of small firms said they believed having the right technology was the most important factor to consider when implementing flexible working practices.
