Advancements in e-commerce and business telecoms could lead to most employees working from home by 2033, it has been claimed. Microsoft has this week stated it expects office blocks will "disappear" over the coming decades, as an increasing number of bosses take advantage of e-commerce. Research carried out by the software giant's Windows Mobile team claims 44 per cent of head-office workers are being allowed to operate from home. James McCarthy, a researcher for Microsoft, said: "The UK is set to change dramatically over the next 25 years as remote working evolves and employers and employees alike embrace the changes to come." The study claims 18 per cent of workers questioned said they thought head offices "were becoming redundant". Meanwhile, a study by communications group Plantroncis has this week revealed employees are "happier working from home". A poll of 1,400 workers claimed two-thirds of those asked would prefer to be a remote worker.
