Business telecoms technology has resulted in increased opportunities for flexible working conditions, it has been claimed. Research by the Centre for Future Studies shows more firms are employing home workers, thanks to wireless link-ups. The study claims 63 per cent of businesses questioned offer e-commerce opportunities, such as wireless networks, thanks to new technological advances. Call centres are said to be a prime example of an industry taking advantage of the technology. Ian Byron, director of IT company Powerdial Systems, claims: "Call centres are weighing up options to allow staff to work from home." Mr Byron added business telecoms advancements are "bridging the distance between the desktop and corporate database". Neil McShane, an IT manager for A V Dawson, told contentagenda.com his firm has wirelessly linked employees across two bases, with the e-commerce choice proving to be "secure and cost-effective". However, the study also claims 62 per cent of workers do not have the necessary IT skills to use the equipment. Meanwhile, software giant Microsoft announced this week it has purchased European e-commerce business Ciao GmbH in a $486 million (£272 million) deal.
