Mobile technology is allowing UK workers to become more self-reliant, according to research carried out by a UK office support consultancy.
In the poll of 1,000 individuals by Office Angels, ten per cent admitted to checking in outside of office hours - and this means they could pay back up to 20 days of work, according to the report.
This effectively means that UK companies could be benefiting by workers paying back their annual holiday allowances.
However, the report also reported that 40 per cent of those taking part felt grateful for the opportunity to work outside of their regulated office hours, citing greater flexibility in their work, a more efficient use of their time and a reduction in stress, thanks to the new technology.
In related news, the British Computer Society has said that companies need to do more to enforce flexible and part-time working to encourage female professionals into the IT sector.
