Mobile devices are set to grow increasingly more sophisticated as sector innovation continues, one expert has said.
Jon Barrow, senior researcher at Which?, said that mobiles have not yet hit the pinnacle of their gadgetry potential.
"We haven't reached a plateau yet. Things are going to keep on getting more and more advanced and more and more complicated," he said.
Mr Barrow gave the example of the iPhone's trend-setting ability, observing that following the Apple product's launch "all the manufacturers" introduced touch-screen phones.
The "big technology" being discussed at the moment is global positioning systems on mobile devices, he said, with more telecommunications products set to incorporate satellite navigation capacities.
Ofcom's December 2007 annual International Communications Market report found that mobile was driving the bulk of growth in the telecommunications sector, representing 53 per cent of total telecoms revenue.
"We are going to be seeing even more," affirmed Mr Barrow.
