Uptake of fixed-line broadband could be overtaken by mobile web services within two years, one sector company claims.
Broadband comparison website Top 10 Broadband notes that there has been a 50 per cent month-on-month increase in uptake of mobile web connections for the past six months.
According to the site, if this rate is sustained then mobile will be more popular than fixed-line internet by 2010.
The comments follow comScore's revelation that US mobile broadband use increased by 154 per cent last year.
While uptake is still relatively low, the analyst predicted the rate of uptake to increase in the next few years.
Top 10 Broadband said that users are attracted to the flexibility of mobile broadband as opposed to wireless services.
"We believe this trend is as significant as the shift from home to mobile phones that took place in the mid-1990s and reflects the increasing demand for greater flexibility in communications devices," said the firm's Alex Buttle, according to Web User magazine.
