The market for mobile broadband grew substantially last year and is set to expand further, according to a new report.
Figures from comScore indicate a 154 per cent rise in the number of US computers accessing mobile broadband over the past year.
Serge Matta, senior vice-president with the company, says that while the number of people accessing the internet in this way is still a relatively small section of the US population - one per cent - the market is likely to grow profoundly in the next few years.
"As consumers increasingly demand and depend on portable internet access, the demand for mobile broadband should continue to increase," he said.
Trends identified by the digital world analyst include a stronger presence for mobile broadband in the workplace, which represented 59 per cent of computers accessing the web remotely compared to 41 per cent of residential stations.
Insight Research has predicted that about 39 per cent of the corporate telecoms bill will account for mobile telecoms by the end of 2008.
