The mobile VoIP market is increasing in size and value, it has been suggested. According to In-Stat, this sector will generate annual revenues of $32.3 billion (£19.6 billion) by 2013. Analysts at the firm predicted that this will be achieved thanks to more than 278 million people using this kind of telecoms service. Frank Dickson, an analyst for In-Stat, said that these telecoms tools have encouraged people to "think about voice as a data application". He added: "The increasing penetration of Wi-Fi in mobile devices was the beach head that mobile VoIP applications needed." The study also predicted that the Asia Pacific market will become the biggest for mobile VoIP, despite Europe, the Middle East and Africa currently generating the most revenue through these telecoms services. Earlier this month, it was revealed that an investor group is set it purchase a major stake in Skype from online auction website eBay.
