Malware attacks could be a threat to e-contact centres this year, it has been suggested. Javier Merchan of Panda Security said that these crimes have been on the increase since 2006. He said that it has now reached a point where hackers are using malware attacks to generate money, rather than fame. The expert commented: "Cybercriminals are making more and more samples in order to infect as many users as possible and also to avoid AV [anti-virus] detections." He also said that levels of malware are expected to continue to rise in 2010, which could put e-contact centres at risk from cybercriminals. Mr Merchan added: "Once again malware will be designed almost exclusively for financial gain, and we can expect to see many new fake anti-viruses rogueware, bots and banker trojans." Recently, Panda Security noted the rise of malware as a major IT security trend of the last 12 months.
