John Lewis has announced plans to open a new call centre next year. The retailer could create as many as 200 customer service jobs by opening the facility. A hub for John Lewis' consumer care operations is to be located in Didsbury's Towers Business Park. The retailer is also set to open a call centre in Hamilton, creating further customer care agent positions in the process. These hubs will serve as a focal point for John Lewis' consumer service, taking over from the company's current system of having agents taking calls in store. Didsbury has been chosen in preference of Newcastle, which was also considered as a possible location for the call centre. Last week, around 150 call centre jobs were secured as Sainsbury's announced a new consumer care deal. The supermarket giant will base its customer service hub in Glasgow in a move that was announced by Alex Salmond, the Scottish first minister.
