TUI Travel's high street agents are to take on all bookings from customers in their local areas, it has been reported.
As well as the walk-in centres, staff at Thomson and First Choice will now also handle web and call centre customers, according to TMCnet.
Thomson already operates a virtual call centre but under the new plans, high street sales consultants would take on new bookings responsibilities.
Dermot Blastland, managing director for UK and Ireland, told the publication there would be no "mass cull" of shops, but that the new procedure would help to balance out sales across the network.
TUI AG is an international company dealing in shipping and tourism.
Its hotels portfolio includes brands such as Grupotel and Riu, while its travel division was created after merging with First Choice Holidays, forming the London Stock Exchage-listed TUI Travel PLC.
TUI Travel PLC has more than 30 million customers and operates in 180 countries.
