The telecoms sector is to grow next year, according to an expert. Paul Merry, senior analyst at Informa Telecoms and Media, commented that his firm believes revenues in the industry will continue to grow. He explained: "In terms of prospects for 2010 we expect to see revenues of approximately $57 billion (£35 billion) generated with the majority of revenue - 32 per cent - generated in the Western European region." Mr Merry also commented on Ofgem's recent report on business telecoms. He supported the document's assertion that mobile enterprise services are experiencing a marked increase in importance. The expert also said that the "growing prevalence and sophistication of convergence" is a key driving for the industry. Last week, Ofgem released a report which stated that businesses spent £13.9 billion on telecoms in 2008, accounting for 45 per cent of total telecoms turnover. Meanwhile, there was an average annual telecoms spend of £14,600.
