The government's Digital Britain report "lacks vision", an expert has claimed. Dame Wendy Hall, professor of computer science at the University of Southampton, said that while the study states the need for 2Mbps broadband, this may not be enough to roll out some services. She commented that the UK needs to have a "much higher vision" when it comes to this kind of technology, which could result in more people gaining access to online telecoms facilities. Dame Wendy said: "The fact that we're bankrupt and can't afford to put optical fibre anywhere doesn't mean we shouldn't be doing it. "We need to think harder about what type of society we're going to have in the age of networks and for sure ours is going to be a backward one if we don't get this right." Dame Wendy was speaking at the Digital Media - Addressing the innovations and challenges for Digital Britain - London Technology Network conference, which was held earlier this week.
