Bosses can boost their workers' productivity by introducing flexible measures. That is the view of Rob Lovell, chief executive officer of ThinkGrid, a Cloud IT services provider, who said that this can be achieved by removing the need for employees, such as those in call centres, to commute. He commented: "With technology such as cloud computing being increasingly adopted by businesses, people are able to work from almost anywhere, essentially removing the barriers of the traditional office by allowing sharing and collaboration of data and applications." Mr Lovell explained that, by doing so, employees can have the chance to work from a place and at times that suit them, which could include call centre agents operating from home. Recent research from the Trades Union Congress showed that Britons spend 21.8 million hours travelling to and from work each day. Meanwhile, the average employee has a daily commute of 52.6 minutes.
