Spending on mobile technology within organisations is being conducted in an "ad hoc" way and is wasting business resources, an expert has said.
Glyn Owen, portfolio manager at technology firm Damovo UK, explained that expenditure on mobile has not been controlled in firms in the same way as other costs.
The comments come after a Damovo report revealed that organisations in Britain could be wasting up to £264 million a year on mobile calls.
According to the IT services firm, better utilisation of Wi-Fi infrastructure could bring the costs of these overheads down.
"There has been reluctance in the past about whether Wi-Fi from a security point of view, from a performance point of view, whether they should be putting voice applications on it," Mr Owen noted.
"That may have held some organisations back or whether they believe there is a big expenditure they need to make to their Wi-Fi, perhaps unreasonably, to handle voice applications."
