A growing number of businesses are considering mobile commerce channels, it has been observed.
A new report by analyst Gartner indicates that such channels offer firms faster data speeds and other improvements, leading an increasing number of companies to pursue them.
The investigation found that 18 per cent of consumers would be likely to check prices of products on their phones, while 11 per cent would make a mobile phone transaction.
Hung LeHong, research vice-president at Gartner, pointed out that the adoption of multi-channel shopping processes would be crucial to harnessing the spending power of
"Focusing solely on driving m-commerce [mobile commerce] revenue will not deliver what customers are really looking for when using their mobile phones during shopping process," he said.
Firms were advised to consider specific instances in which a customer might wish to make a purchase using a mobile.
A recent eMarketer report asserted that the UK has a high level of confidence in online shopping and e-commerce.
