Deregulation of the broadband market would improve the UK's infrastructure, it has been claimed. Richard Patterson, marketing director for Expert-Broadband.co.uk, said that this could result in greater commercial investment in the technology, which could lead to more people being able to access telecoms services such as VoIP. He added that this is one of several ways that the UK's internet provision could be boosted. Mr Patterson explained: "Perhaps the government could provide some additional tax incentives for companies to invest in broadband infrastructure. "More emphasis will be put on bundling products with a single provider, which will also reduce price to the consumer." According to a study released by the Office for National Statistics earlier this year, 18.3 million homes had access to broadband in 2009. This represents 70 per cent of households and is a rise of 1.85 per cent on figures for the previous year.
