British organisations could cut their budgets by deploying energy efficient solutions, a representative of The Carbon Trust has said.
Delvin Lane, head of client engagement with the government-initiated independent company, said that firms could save 20 per cent of their energy costs simply by switching off monitors and turning off lights.
Turning office heating up by just one degree can increase energy bills by eight per cent, he said, in news that may be of interest to firms looking for funds to invest in business telecoms initiatives.
Mr Lane added that the problem is not confined to large organisations, with small and medium-sized enterprises wasting valuable funds.
"SMEs alone are probably wasting about £1.3 billion a year on energy costs. Large companies are equally well placed, but SMEs are sometimes fighting for survival," he pointed out.
Recent research by The Carbon Trust found that businesses are looking to energy-efficiency as a cost-saving measure as the credit crunch continues to tighten budgets.
