The European Commission has announced further proposals for the telecoms market, according to a source. Viviane Reding, the European Union (EU) telecoms commissioner, has put forward plans which she suggests will enable consumer and business telecoms customers to find cheaper deals. The news comes despite the European Parliament failing to back proposals for the EU to fully regulate the telecoms sector. Ms Reding has previously stated the body would like the power to veto some national telecoms regulations. The EU should have the ability to "notify national regulators" during internal market problems, the commissioner states. A vote on the full plans is due later this month, with the possibility of a further vote on Ms Reding's proposals over telecoms regulation vetoing, reports Reuters. Meanwhile, a global business telecoms group has signed a deal with Vianet, it has been reported. Vianet, which provides cashless payment systems, has signed a five-year contract with an unnamed firm.
