The growth of e-commerce has had a huge impact on the travel industry, according to one industry member.
Ross Elder, managing director of Holiday Lettings, commented this week that the rise of online shopping has made the process of tour booking easier for both the consumer and industry organisations.
"It's made it easier for both the owners to actually showcase their properties and also for the holidaymakers in terms of seeing what they're going to get," Mr Elder said.
He pointed out that people looking to sell or let apartments abroad had to rely on sending photographs to show potential clients the nature of the property, while today this can all be done on the internet.
Office for National Statistics tourism figures show that visits to the UK by overseas residents increased by five per cent in the February to April 2008 period, compared with figures for the previous three months.
