Disaster recovery has been named as a major factor for businesses in a recent survey, according to a source. A study on firms which have taken on server virtualisation technology states a disaster recovery service is the second most pressing issue. Sever consolidation topped the list, which was compiled by the Data Storage Connection, the study states. Tom Bittman, an analyst for IT support firm Gartner, claimed: "The driving force for virtualisation is consolidation, but disaster recovery is the second phase." Server virtualisation masks attributes such as the identity and number of processors, servers and operating systems. Meanwhile, in other news which may interest companies involved in disaster recovery and e-commerce, a recent study has pointed out problems in the process of virtualisation. Research by Symantec, carried out on 1,000 businesses, claims 35 per cent of virtual servers are not included in a firm's disaster recovery plan, reports internetnews.com.
