Several factors will decide how soon next-generation broadband is adopted in the UK. Stuart McIntosh, partner for competition at Ofcom, speaking at the Westminster eForum keynote seminar the Future of Broadband in the UK, said that the implementation of this technology is a "potentially world changing issue". He commented: "There are varying views on the pace we should move towards NGA (next-generation access) and superfast broadband and, ultimately, that's an issue for consumers, the companies providing services to those consumers and the government." Mr McIntosh stated that this fact has been displayed in the Digital Britain report and also the Final Third project. He also said that the rolling out of superfast broadband will have an affect on our "personal lives and economic lives", which could involve more people accessing online telecoms services such as VoIP. The Digital Britain report states that everyone in the UK should have access to 2Mbps internet by 2012.
