Call centre jobs are set to be lost after a consumer care complex announced that it is to close. The Londonderry workers will lose their jobs after their company, Stream International, failed to attract new business. This comes after the firm lost a contract with the Post Office in August, resulting in employees being put on a 90-day notice period. Around 300 call centre workers will lose their jobs, out of the 560 employees based at the facility. Martina Anderson, an assembly member, told the Belfast Telegraph: "There are many couples working in Stream International who have children and mortgages and for this to happen in the month of Christmas is most unfortunate." This news comes as four multi-million pound contracts secured call centre jobs at a Scottish facility. Deals worth £85 million helped to ensure that BeCogent in Glasgow could stay open, saving 150 call centre jobs in the process.
