Samaritans based in call centres in Bournemouth and Southampton have seen an increase in activity following the excessively heavy snowfall in Swindon.
Not all workers in the town's Curtis Street Samaritans branch could make it due to the snow and ice, meaning that calls had to redirected to less affected call centres on the south coast, the Swindon Advertiser reports.
Tara Pritchard, a Samaritans volunteer, told the newspaper that those who did or tried to make it to one of the phones showed a "huge commitment", particularly because it remained uncertain whether they could make it home after their shift.
"The volunteers are trudging through the snow as we speak," she commented.
Two phone lines are operated by the Samaritans in Swindon, with the call centre open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Voice specialist GasboxDMG is set to use its Swindon call centre alongside Kitchen manufacturer Miele in a new lead generation campaign for its high-end kitchens, ccfonline reported earlier this week.
