A £747,000 funding scheme is to be used to create a new Citizens Advice helpline. Consumers will be able to access guidance through a virtual call centre, Rhodri Morgan, the Welsh first minister, has announced. The helpline is being put in place as current systems have experienced high levels of demand during the economic downturn. Mr Morgan said: "This funding will establish a much needed telephone service via a virtual call centre, which will give people greater access to telephone advice in English or in Welsh." He added that the helpline will be able to meet the needs of more people in Wales than the current systems available to them. Fran Targett, director of Citizens Advice Cymru, welcomed the news, saying the effects of the recession will make demand for such call centres high in the short to medium term. In other industry news, nominees for the Top 10 Call Centre Technology for 2009 awards have been announced.
