Call centres around the UK are set to spring into action tonight for Children in Need. The fundraising event generates millions of pounds for good causes each year and will see 52 call centres handling pledges. BT has revealed that since its online platform became involved in the fundraising show in 2002 it has dealt with donations worth almost £100 million, with it expecting to surpass this figure tonight (November 20th). The telecoms giant has supported the event since its inception in the 1980s. Beth Courtier, community investment programme manager for the firm, said that telecoms infrastructures and call centres are key to the show. She added: "BT supports charity telethons because this is where we can use our expertise to help make a difference to those in need." The first Children in Need event took place in 1980 and tonight's show is set to feature stars such as Cheryl Cole, Westlife and Pixie Lott.
