There are several issues holding back the UK's use of the latest technology, it has been claimed. A spokeswoman for the British Computer Society (BCS) suggested that access, knowledge and awareness could be preventing people from using new services, which may include online telecoms utilities. She said that economic deprivation, educational barriers and geographical constraints are all playing a part in stopping consumers and businesses from using the latest technology. The representative added: "Even if people are able to access the internet for example, if they do not know how to keep their personal data safe, and are unaware of the resources available to them, then they may still fail to get the most from the experience." According to a recent study by the BCS, technology has failed to improve the lives of 23 per cent of people. The study suggested that males between 18 and 44-years-old with a university education are most likely to be clued up when it comes to technology.
